The singer Avis Harrell is back in Tahiti. She will give, as early as tomorrow with the Tropical Combo Band a series of concerts in the “Motown” style, mix of soul, funk and Rhythm'n blues. Born in a family of musicians, the artist began to sing very early with her sisters and got a record deal with the record company RCA. She worked with Ray Charles and Wayne Newton. After several busy years traveling in show business, Avis decided to take a break from the road and allow herself the luxury |
to focus on her own career to write and
perform locally in the United States. Today, living in Los Angeles, she
brightens many private clubs that enjoy her qualities of a ‘live” singer.
Endowed with an outstanding energy, and generosity, this beautiful black
American singer creates an entrancing universe, with a deep, warm, melodious
voice. |
coincidence. The brothers had first met the artist in 1995. Avis was singing confidentially, with her pianist, in a local café. One evening, she spontane-ously joined the “Tropical Band”, jazz “big band” with 15 musicians, to sing few classic songs. Impressed, the Rossoni brothers proposed her to participate on the CD they were then recording and asked Avis to record among other song, Spain from the jazz pianist Chic Corea. The friendly contact |
was established. Five years later, she’s back to participate to Heiva upa rau Grammy Awards in November 2000. She also gives a series of concerts noticed in Papeete, featuring the Tropical combo band. She is in love with Polynesia; the band is in love with her talent and her voice. Here she is, back for a series of concerts, with a very varied repertoire, Motown style: soul, funk, Rhythm’n blues. A protégé' of Stevie Wonder, Avis Harrell will revisit and perform soulful American music for those who love that kind in Polynesia. |
